A GUIDE TO CLEAR SKIN

Why is skincare so important?

Well just have a little think about it. Our entire body is covered by a barrier of skin. Our skin is the biggest organ in the human body. It is the largest barrier against infection that we have. If the barrier is not healthy it will not be as good when fighting against infections or germs. Besides, who wouldn’t want clearer looking skin?

Skincare routine basics

  • Wash your face in the mornings. You have just had a long sleep, bacteria can grow on your face whilst sleeping. Cleansing your face in the morning will help to get rid of any bacteria or impurities that have appeared on your face overnight.
  • Wash your face before bedtime. You are about to prepare for a long glorious sleep, why would you want to go to sleep with a non-fresh face? This ties in with my next bullet point…
  • Take off your makeup before you go to sleep. By washing your makeup off it allows for the cosmetics to be washed off. Impurities and dirt will be washed from your skin that has developed over the hours. Not doing this can result in some breakouts, due to the pores being clogged overnight and not allowing them to breathe.
  • Drink water. Drinking water flushes out the toxins that build up in your body. Staying hydrated helps as the water helps to maintain the skin’s elasticity, allowing it to bounce back so hopefully there will be fewer wrinkles.

Does drinking water help your skin?

Drinking water, in general, helps your entire body and also has some benefits for your skin.

Reduces Puffiness – Sometimes our body will retain water which can lead to swelling. Drinking more water will help your body to mobilise fluids as well as reduce the swelling.

pH balance – Drinking water can help to balance your pH level to give you that glowing dewy look. Alkaline water is to be said that it can help to neutralize the acid in your body. Click here for more information

Smaller Visible pores – Pores enlarge throughout the day. By drinking water through the day, will allow a better balance of oil and water on the surface of the skin. Reducing the pore size will also help your makeup look more flattering on the skin.

Are Ice facials good for your skin?

Ice facials
Why are ice facials so popular?

Using ice cubes can help skin inflammation and soothe pimples. Ice cubes brighten your complexion as well as tightening the skin. It can help stimulate blood circulation giving you that healthy glow. Ice facials are so popular as they are so easy to do. You can do it in the comfort of your home, making it an inexpensive facial.

How to apply ice to your face

Place 4-5 ice cubes in a soft cotton cloth and gently massage your face. Use circular motions for 1-2 minutes. Ensure you massage gently around the entire face, and you can even possibly massage around your neck.
Tips to remember:
– Ensure you wash your face before using the ice cubes.
– Make sure the soft cotton cloth is clean.
– Do not hold the ice onto your skin for too long.

How often should I rub ice on my face?

You can choose to do this daily, or even every other day. It does depend on your skin type. If you have very sensitive skin, then I would recommend doing it every other day. If you have a skin condition, you might want to consult with your doctor beforehand.

Do ice cubes help dark circles and bags?

Having a cold compress can help shrink and reduce the swelling of dilated blood vessels. Using ice can also help the development of large bags appearing under the eyes. If you haven’t got ice cubes, you can simply dampen a cold cotton cloth and place onto eyes until the cloth becomes warmer.

What foods help your skin glow?

Clear Skin

Foods high in Omega-3 fatty acids, contribute to maintaining skin health. Omega-3 fats in fish, for example, help to reduce inflammation as well as not allowing too much of the sun’s UV rays to damage the skin.

Red or yellow bell peppers have a great source of beta carotene. Your body converts into this into vitamin A. These peppers also contain high levels of vitamin C. Beta carotene and vitamin C are antioxidants for your skin.

Broccoli is rich in vitamins and minerals. The vitamins and minerals are highly important for skin health. Broccoli contains substances such as glucoraphanin which gets converted into sulforaphane which helps for skin to repair.

My 3 personal favourite skincare products

1. Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm

This is my go-to product for everyday use. I first came across this when a friend received a sample of this and gifted it to me. Having used this for over a year now, I am still highly impressed with the results it continues to give me. It is a cleansing balm, which may sound weird at first however it does miracles for my skin. I have received many compliments on my skin since I have been using this and to be told your skin is glowing is such a good feeling!

2. Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber and Green tea

One of my favourite face mists of all time. I have been using this product for over 3 years now. I take it on holiday with me too, and put it into the refrigerator in the hotel room. This gives the mist a nice cool refreshing feel, and it helps calm down any sunburn I have on my face. I use this all year round, in the mornings and nighttime to freshen my face.

3. Elemis Superfood Berry Boost Mask

For a facial mask, to use once a week, this is my favourite. I simply steam my face beforehand and wipe away any dirt and then put the mask all over my face. The mask has a very clean smell, and weirdly it smells like your putting fresh berries onto your face (which of course are already in the mask!). I sometimes choose to do this mask before a night out and it gives my face that glorious little pump of glow!

I hope this 5-minute guide has helped you find some new information on skincare and why it is so important. Some skincare products can be quite expensive at times, however, it can really help your skin due to the high quality of ingredients used (this, of course, varies for different skin types).

Anyway, for now, take care
