HOW OFTEN SHOULD I USE RICE WATER ON MY HAIR?
It depends on your hair type. You should use rice water at least once a week, as washing your hair with rice water can cause a protein overload. A protein overload can actually leave your hair into becoming brittle and more dry. If you are using rice water to rinse your hair after shampooing and conditioning, maybe use it once a week to begin with. The smell isn’t amazing so maybe add some essential oils like tea tree or peppermint oil into the mix, to give a pleasing smell. Bear in mind again, that everyones hair is a different hair type.
According to research, women in the period 794 – 1185 CE (also known as the Heian period) in Japan had very long hair which they kept also healthy by bathing it in rice water. Inositol, is an ingredient found inside rice which is said to have the ability to penetrate damaged hair inside and out.
Rice water contains vitamins and minerals such as:
– B vitamins
– Vitamin E
– Antioxidants
– Amino acids
Below I have linked a fermented rice water spray. This spray is pre-done for you to use on your hair straight away. It can have a slight odour however the smell eventually goes over a period of time. You spray this rice water on the areas of your hair which are thinning.
Rather than using a normal hair brush, you can use this scalp massager. It helps to stimulate blood flow to the scalp and oil glands. It is made of silicone, so is completely waterproof for you to use in the shower or bath.
The ideal time is up to 5-6 minutes. When you pour/spray the rice water onto your hair, massage it into the hair and scalp. Leave the rice water on for up to 6 minutes, then follow through with a rinse of warm water.
Some peoples hair types require more protein than others, so perhaps every 3 times a week would benefit some, however 3 times a week would be too much for other hair types. Protein causes the hair to hard, leaving it feeling brittle and dry.
The smell of the rice water can be highly unpleasing. This is due to the rice water being fermenting. It is said that the longer you leave the rice water, the stronger the smell. Bear in mind, that if you use rice water on your hair that is not fresh, you will be left with a foul smell left in your hair.
That is all for now, I hope you are taking care and staying safe!
